New York Yankees Tyler Austin Designs T-Shirt to Raise Awareness of Testicular Cancer Awareness Month
Professional baseball player and testicular cancer survivor, partners with Athletes Brand, on T-shirt to raise awareness for Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation and raise money for an annual awareness campaign.
New York, NY, April 2, 2018 – New York Yankees player, Tyler Austin, steps up to share his battle with Testicular Cancer at the age of 17 to kick off April's Testicular Cancer Awareness Month. He's set out to sell 1000 Limited Edition T-Shirts that he helped design to fund an early detection awareness event put on by the Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation.
Affecting nearly 7,000 to 8,000 men per year in the United States, testicular cancer is a disease in which cancer develops in one or both of a man's testicles. After his diagnosis of a fast-growing teratoma tumor, he quickly learned that this was the same cancer that Lance Armstrong survived. Through Armstrong's story of raising money for cancer research, Austin felt strongly about raising awareness for the same disease that threatened his own life. The successful surgery to remove the tumor prognosis was ultimately attributed to his early diagnosis after complaining he felt pain.
“When I was 17 years old I was diagnosed with testicular cancer and it was a really scary time in my life. After a couple surgeries, I am now cancer free which is amazing." said Austin. "The reason I am doing this is to try to get the word out about how important early detection is with this disease. And with Athletes Brand and the Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation, I believe that we can spread a good word about this.”
Proceeds from shirt sales will benefit the Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation's annual awareness campaign, "Running of the Balls". The foundation aims to raise awareness of early detection and treatment for the disease.
The limited-edition “Ball Out” T-shirt can be purchased at AthletesBrand.com from April 2nd, 2018, until the 1000 Limited Edition shirts are sold out. The shirts are available in men’s, women’s and youth sizes.
